Mr. Willem Poolman, LLM, after obtaining a degree of Leyden University in the Netherlands, completed law studies in Toronto, Canada in 1958 and has practised law since that date mostly in commercial and business law and since about 15 years concentrating on immigration.

Strictly speaking no lawyer or consultant is necessary to apply. However the law and the regulations have become so complex that no one except an experienced immigration lawyer can properly assist you to select the occupation which matches your work experience which when not so matched has become one of the main reasons why applications are sometimes refused. Also the selection of the visa office where to apply most efficiently has become one of the most important factors in assuring a speedy processing of your application.

The interest in immigrating to Canada has surged in the last few years and this unfortunately has resulted in increasing the processing times at the visa offices, but if you are patient and have the proper qualifications, you are bound to succeed and with good advice you may find ways to reduce the processing time of your application. Lawyers or consultants in this country cannot promise you a specific processing time for your application. What they can do is to insist on fair and equal treatment by the visa offices. So do not believe any such promises.
